VinFast VF6 Scores 5-Star Bharat NCAP Rating Despite Weak Chest Protection
The VinFast VF6 electric SUV has secured a 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests, reinforcing the brand’s emphasis on safety for its India-bound lineup. The rating covers both adult and child occupant protection and applies across all VF6 variants on sale.
Bharat NCAP crash test results explained
In the adult occupant protection tests, the VinFast VF6 scored 27.13 points out of a possible 32. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, protection to the driver’s and front passenger’s head, neck and pelvis was rated as good. However, protection to the driver’s chest was marked as weak, while knee protection ranged from marginal to adequate.
The VF6 performed strongly in side impact tests, scoring a full 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. In the side pole impact test, the rating was marked as ‘OK’, contributing positively to the overall score.
Child occupant protection performance
For child occupant protection, the VF6 achieved 44.41 points out of a maximum of 49. It recorded full marks in both the dynamic test (24/24) and the child restraint system installation test (12/12), while scoring 10 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment component. Both the 18-month-old and three-year-old child dummies were tested in rearward-facing child seats secured via ISOFIX anchorages.
What this 5-star rating means for buyers
Despite the noted weakness in chest protection during frontal crashes, the VinFast VF6’s overall performance was strong enough to earn a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, electronic stability control and ISOFIX child seat mounts. For buyers considering an electric SUV in this segment, the VF6’s crash test results offer reassurance, while also highlighting areas where safety performance could be improved.
