Volkswagen ID. Unix 08 With Xpeng Tech Rolls Off Production Line In China

Volkswagen has officially begun production of the ID. Unix 08 electric crossover in China, marking a new phase in the brand’s push to strengthen its electric vehicle presence in the world’s largest EV market. The new model was developed in collaboration with Chinese EV maker Xpeng and is built at the Volkswagen Anhui manufacturing facility.

Production And Partnership

According to the company, it took around 24 months from signing the technology cooperation agreement to the start of production. The ID. Unix 08 is the production version of the ID. Evo concept that was first showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2025.

The vehicle was co-developed with Xpeng, which provided software architecture along with connectivity and driver assistance technologies. The collaboration is part of Volkswagen’s strategy to accelerate EV development and strengthen its competitiveness in China’s rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.

Specifications And Features

The electric crossover is offered with two powertrain configurations. The rear-wheel-drive version produces 230 kW (308 hp), while the all-wheel-drive variant delivers up to 370 kW (496 hp).

Battery options include 82.4 kWh and 95 kWh packs supplied by CATL. Depending on the configuration, the vehicle offers a claimed driving range between 630 km and 730 km under CLTC testing conditions.

The ID. Unix 08 measures around 5,000 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm. Interior highlights include a dual-screen dashboard, a two-spoke steering wheel and a 20-speaker audio system. The SUV also features retractable door handles, slim LED lighting elements and a large panoramic sunroof with auto-dimming functionality.
