Top 10 hatchbacks Jan 2026 India: sales data highlights a mixed start to the year for the segment. Maruti Suzuki Swift emerged as the leader while several popular models saw either growth or notable year-on-year declines.

Maruti Suzuki Swift led the chart with 17,806 units, posting a modest 4 per cent increase compared to January last year. Baleno followed with 16,782 units but recorded a 16 per cent decline.
WagonR experienced one of the sharpest drops, down 37 per cent to 15,118 units. In contrast, the Alto continued steady demand in the entry-level space with 12,314 units and an 8 per cent rise.

Together, these models kept Maruti Suzuki dominant in the hatchback segment despite varying performance across individual nameplates.
Growth Stories and Declines Across Hatchbacks
Tata Tiago showed healthy momentum with 8,349 units and 23 per cent growth. The Altroz also performed strongly, jumping 54 per cent year-on-year to 3,135 units.

Hyundai’s Grand i10 Nios recorded 7,710 units with a 45 per cent increase while the i20 grew 20 per cent to 5,677 units. These gains indicate stable demand in the mid-premium hatchback space.
On the other hand, Toyota Glanza declined 14 per cent to 2,978 units. Maruti Suzuki Ignis saw the steepest fall among the top ten, dropping 50 per cent to 1,902 units.

Overall, January 2026 hatchback sales reflected mixed consumer demand, with some long-running models maintaining traction while others faced increased competition.
