Top 10 Best-Selling Cars in India in CY2025: Dzire Tops Creta, Nexon and WagonR
India’s passenger vehicle market witnessed a major reshuffle in calendar year 2025, with changes at the very top of the sales chart. While Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate in overall volumes, strong performances from Hyundai, Tata Motors and Mahindra reshaped the rankings. Leading the chart in CY2025 was the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which surged to the number one position after the arrival of its new-generation model.
The Dzire recorded sales of 214,488 units in CY2025, marking a jump of around 46,500 units compared to the previous year. This translated into a healthy 28 percent year-on-year growth and helped the compact sedan climb from eighth place in 2024 straight to the top. Demand for petrol and CNG variants played a key role, with CNG accounting for more than half of the Dzire’s total sales.
| Rank | Model | Sales (Units) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Maruti Dzire | 214,488 |
| 2 | Hyundai Creta | 201,122 |
| 3 | Tata Nexon | 200,561 |
| 4 | Maruti WagonR | 194,238 |
| 5 | Maruti Ertiga | 192,025 |
| 6 | Maruti Swift | 189,261 |
| 7 | Maruti Fronx | 179,894 |
| 8 | Mahindra Scorpio | 176,988 |
| 9 | Maruti Brezza | 175,310 |
| 10 | Tata Punch | 173,502 |
Hyundai’s Creta finished second with 201,122 units, posting an eight percent growth and climbing three positions over 2024. Close behind was the Tata Nexon, which delivered one of its strongest calendar-year performances ever. With sales of 200,561 units, the Nexon grew by 24 percent and jumped seven ranks to secure third place, underlining the continued demand for compact SUVs.

In contrast, some former chart-toppers slipped down the order. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR, which led the sales chart in 2024, dropped to fourth place with marginal growth of just two percent. The Ertiga followed in fifth with a modest one percent increase, while the Swift retained sixth position with a ten percent growth.

Among fast risers, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx impressed by climbing to seventh place with a 15 percent year-on-year growth. The Mahindra Scorpio emerged as the strongest-selling SUV in the top 10, finishing eighth, driven largely by diesel demand. On the other hand, the Maruti Brezza and Tata Punch saw notable declines, with the Punch slipping from the top spot in 2024 to tenth place in CY2025.

Overall, the CY2025 rankings highlight a clear preference for SUVs and fuel-efficient powertrains such as CNG and diesel, while also showing that timely model updates can dramatically change a car’s market fortunes.
