The Hyundai Exter facelift has been spotted on Indian roads for the first time, signalling that the micro-SUV’s mid-cycle refresh is on track. Launched in July 2023, the Exter is nearing its third year on sale and the update is expected to help Hyundai keep the model competitive against the recently updated Tata Punch.

Spy shots suggest Hyundai is taking a conservative approach with the Exter facelift, focusing more on refinement than a full design overhaul. The overall shape and character of the micro-SUV appear familiar, which should appeal to existing buyers looking for continuity.

The test mule retains the split headlamp setup with the H-signature daytime running lights, a design element that defines the current Exter. The tail-lamps also appear unchanged, continuing with a similar H-pattern. Most of the visible updates are expected to be limited to the front grille and bumpers. The Exter is also likely to continue with 15-inch alloy wheels, though the facelifted version may get a fresh five-spoke design for a sportier look.

While exterior changes seem minimal, the cabin could see more noticeable upgrades. Hyundai may introduce a redesigned dashboard, a new steering wheel, a larger digital instrument cluster and a bigger touchscreen infotainment system. The new displays are expected to run Android Automotive OS, improving usability and features.

Mechanically, the Exter facelift is likely to continue with the same 1.2-litre petrol and CNG engines. An AMT option for the CNG variant could also be added. Prices are expected to start around Rs 5.8 lakh (ex-showroom), with a launch likely in the second quarter of the year.
