Brezza, Nexon Rival Renault Mini Duster in the Works for India
Renault is exploring the possibility of introducing a new sub-4-metre SUV for India, informally referred to as the Mini Duster. While the new-generation Duster has strengthened Renault’s presence in the midsize SUV space, the real volume opportunity continues to lie in the sub-4m segment, currently dominated by models like the Brezza and Nexon.
Although Renault already sells the Kiger in India, its market share in the segment remains modest. A Mini Duster-style SUV would allow the brand to target a different set of buyers by offering a more upright, rugged design and a stronger road presence. This dual-product strategy has worked well for several manufacturers in India, helping them cover a wider price and buyer spectrum.

Renault Mini Duster: positioning and design direction
The upcoming sub-4m SUV is expected to carry a boxier profile to clearly differentiate it from the Kiger. Design highlights could include a prominent grille, sharp lighting elements, rugged bumpers, chunky cladding and roof rails. The overall look is likely to mirror the design language of the new-generation Duster, helping Renault leverage the SUV’s growing brand recall in India.
Powertrain options and expected launch timeline

Under the hood, the Mini Duster could use Renault’s familiar 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, currently offered with the Kiger, paired with manual and CVT gearbox options. Renault has not confirmed timelines yet, but the sub-4m SUV is expected to arrive only after the launch of the upcoming 7-seater Duster. This places a potential India launch around 2027–28.
With sub-4m SUVs accounting for the highest volumes among all SUV segments in India, a Mini Duster could play a key role in Renault’s long-term growth strategy.
