Upcoming Hyundai Bayon-Based Compact SUV Spied, New Turbo Engine Expected
Hyundai’s upcoming Bayon-based compact SUV, internally codenamed Bc4i, has been spied testing abroad, offering a closer look at what could be the brand’s next key model for India. The new SUV is expected to sit between the Exter and the Venue in Hyundai’s lineup and is likely to make its India debut by Q3 2026.
What the spy shots reveal about the new Hyundai SUV

The camouflaged test mule shows a silhouette that closely resembles the Venue, especially around the front and side profile. It features a split LED headlamp setup with DRL signatures similar to the Venue, along with chunky body cladding on the lower bumper. The side profile carries over a familiar window line and squared-off wheel arches, while a fresh set of alloy wheels adds some distinction.
At the rear, the SUV appears to get a different LED tail-lamp design compared to the Venue, though camouflage limits visibility. Interior details are not visible in the spy shots, but the cabin is expected to follow Hyundai’s usual approach with a feature-rich layout.
Engine options and where it fits in Hyundai’s lineup

A major highlight of this Bayon-based SUV is the expected debut of a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. This motor is positioned between Hyundai’s existing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines and is also said to be hybrid-ready as part of the brand’s future powertrain strategy. Gearbox options could include a DCT or an e-CVT.
Hyundai may also offer the familiar 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with manual or DCT options, to keep prices competitive.
Expected launch timeline and rivals
The Bayon-based compact SUV is expected to be launched in India by Q3 2026, with prices likely falling in the Rs 7 lakh to Rs 15 lakh range. Once launched, it will take on rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Taisor, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Citroen C3.
