BMW Confirms March 18 Debut For New i3 Electric Sedan
BMW has officially confirmed that the all-new i3 electric sedan will make its global debut on March 18, 2026. The model will mark the start of a new era for the brand as it becomes the electric equivalent of the popular 3 Series sedan.
The upcoming i3 will also be the second vehicle built on BMW’s Neue Klasse electric architecture, following the recently revealed iX3 crossover. With new battery technology, faster charging and a completely redesigned cabin, the i3 aims to set the tone for BMW’s next generation of EVs.

Neue Klasse Design And Interior Technology
The new i3 adopts BMW’s latest Neue Klasse design language with a cleaner and more futuristic appearance. Early teasers show a redesigned front end with illuminated lighting graphics and a modern interpretation of the brand’s traditional kidney grille.
The sedan’s aerodynamic profile is expected to help improve efficiency compared with SUV models built on the same platform.
Inside, the i3 will introduce BMW’s next-generation digital interface powered by the iDrive X system. A new Panoramic Vision display projects key driving information across the base of the windshield, replacing the traditional instrument cluster. A central touchscreen will handle most infotainment and vehicle controls.
Battery, Range And Performance Details
Under the skin, the i3 will use BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology paired with an 800‑volt electrical architecture. The system supports ultra‑fast charging speeds of up to 400 kW.

The launch model, expected to be the i3 50 xDrive, will likely feature a dual‑motor all‑wheel‑drive setup producing around 463 hp and 645 Nm of torque.
The sedan is expected to use a battery pack of roughly 108 kWh, delivering a driving range of more than 800 km on the WLTP cycle.
Series production of the new i3 will begin at BMW’s Munich plant in the second half of 2026, with global sales expected to follow later in the year.
