Audi Australia Evaluating Plug-In Hybrid Version Of New Q3
Audi Australia is preparing to launch the third-generation Q3 small SUV later this month, but the brand is already considering expanding the lineup with a plug-in hybrid variant. While the new Q3 will initially arrive with petrol engines, the overseas Q3 e-hybrid is currently being evaluated for the Australian market.
Audi Australia product planning manager Peter Strudwicke said the company is assessing the business case before confirming whether the plug-in hybrid version will be offered locally. According to the brand, interest in alternative powertrains has increased in recent years, prompting Audi to explore additional electrified options for its SUV range.

Audi Considering Electrified Q3 For Australia
At launch, the new-generation Q3 will be available with three engine options across both SUV and Sportback body styles. The entry-level 110TSI uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a mild-hybrid system, producing 110kW and 250Nm. This marks the first time a mild-hybrid setup has been offered in the Q3 lineup.

Above it sits the 150TSI with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 150kW and 320Nm, while the range-topping 195TSI delivers 195kW and 400Nm from the same engine. These two variants do not feature electrification.
The new Q3 is built on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB Evo platform, which already supports plug-in hybrid systems used in models like the Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid. Overseas, the Q3 e-hybrid uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged PHEV system producing around 200kW and 400Nm.
Audi says the current launch lineup already offers a broad choice for buyers, but additional variants, including a plug-in hybrid or performance-oriented model, could be considered in the future depending on market demand.
