A New Chapter for Hyundai India: Tarun Garg Becomes First Indian MD & CEO

Tarun Garg Becomes First Indian MD & CEO

Hyundai India has started 2026 with a statement of intent. For the first time since the brand entered the country nearly three decades ago, an Indian leader is at the helm. Tarun Garg, a seasoned industry professional with more than 32 years of experience, now takes charge of the company at a moment when India’s automotive landscape is changing faster than ever.

His elevation isn’t symbolic. It reflects Hyundai Motor Group’s growing belief that the next wave of global innovation will be shaped in India. Garg has already driven some of Hyundai’s strongest years in terms of sales, profitability and brand growth. His understanding of local consumer behaviour, combined with his strategic background from IIM Lucknow, gives Hyundai an edge as the market shifts toward EVs, connected ecosystems and premium ownership experiences.

This move is also timed with Hyundai’s long-term commitment to India, backed by a massive investment pipeline of around Rs 45,000 crore till FY2030. Garg’s focus on Make in India, export strength and building a future-ready mobility portfolio positions Hyundai to compete aggressively in both ICE and EV segments.

His people-first leadership style could shape Hyundai’s culture in meaningful ways. Stronger dealer relationships, empowered employees and socially conscious initiatives like Samarth by Hyundai are expected to gain momentum.

For Indian buyers, the message is clear. Hyundai is preparing for its most ambitious phase yet, and Tarun Garg’s leadership will influence how the brand evolves across technology, design, service and electrification.
