Yamaha R3 and MT-03 Discontinued in India, Relaunch Likely in 2026

Yamaha R3 and MT 03 Discontinued in India

Yamaha India has silently discontinued the YZF-R3 and MT-03 in the Indian market. The company has stopped importing both motorcycles, and Yamaha dealerships across the country have confirmed that there is no inventory available. With no official announcement from the brand, the move effectively brings Yamaha’s middleweight offerings in India to a halt for now.

Both motorcycles were introduced as completely built-up (CBU) units, serving as Yamaha’s entry into the middleweight segment. However, their premium pricing meant that demand remained limited throughout their lifecycle, especially in a price-sensitive market like India.

Why Yamaha Pulled the R3 and MT-03 From India

The primary reason behind the discontinuation was pricing. The Yamaha R3 was launched at Rs 4.65 lakh, while the MT-03 was priced at Rs 4.60 lakh (ex-showroom). At these price points, both bikes struggled to attract buyers, particularly when compared to locally assembled rivals offering more performance or features.

Earlier this year, Yamaha attempted to revive interest by slashing prices by Rs 1.10 lakh, followed by an additional Rs 20,000 reduction after GST revisions. Despite these efforts, sales volumes failed to improve significantly, suggesting that the CBU route and limited feature updates continued to work against the bikes.

What This Means for Buyers and Yamaha’s India Line-Up

With the R3 and MT-03 discontinued, Yamaha’s performance lineup in India now consists of the R15, MT-15 and the XSR 155. This leaves a noticeable gap for buyers looking to step up within the brand.

That gap could be addressed in the future, as reports indicate that updated versions of the R3 and MT-03 may return around mid-2026 with refreshed styling and added features. Until then, Yamaha fans in India will have to wait for the brand’s next move in the middleweight segment.
