VinFast Becomes India’s 4th Largest EV Brand After 1,000+ Sales In 4 Months
VinFast has crossed the 1,000-unit electric vehicle sales mark in India within just four months of commencing operations, emerging as the country’s fourth-largest electric car brand. The Vietnamese automaker entered the Indian market in September 2025 and has quickly gained traction despite offering only two models.
The company recorded strong momentum in December 2025, selling 375 electric vehicles in a single month. This performance helped VinFast surpass several established players, including Hyundai, Kia and BMW, and position itself behind only Tata Motors, JSW MG Motor and Mahindra Electric in the EV sales chart.
Strong Early Sales Momentum
Between September and December 2025, VinFast sold around 830 electric vehicles in India. Sales continued into January 2026, with over 200 units delivered so far, pushing the cumulative tally past the 1,000-unit milestone. December proved to be a key month, with VinFast outselling Hyundai and Kia despite their wider electric portfolios.
This early traction is notable given that VinFast currently operates with a limited two-model lineup, while competing brands offer multiple electric vehicles across segments.

Product Line-Up And Pricing
VinFast’s India portfolio includes the VF6 compact electric SUV and the VF7 midsize electric SUV. The VF6 is priced from Rs 17.29 lakh, while the VF7 starts at Rs 21.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Both models are positioned in the Rs 16 lakh to Rs 25 lakh bracket, which has emerged as one of the most active and competitive price segments in India’s electric passenger vehicle market.
This pricing bridges the gap between mass-market EVs and premium imports, attracting buyers looking for alternatives to established brands.
Local Assembly And Network Expansion
A key factor behind VinFast’s competitive pricing is its electric vehicle assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The facility has an initial annual capacity of 50,000 units, scalable to 150,000 vehicles, and is VinFast’s third manufacturing unit globally. Local assembly allows the brand to avoid high import duties and strengthens its long-term commitment to the Indian market.
Within four months of launch, VinFast has established over 25 dealerships and more than 80 service centres across multiple cities. The rapid network expansion reflects a focus on early readiness and after-sales reach, two critical factors for EV adoption.

What Lies Ahead
VinFast plans to expand its India portfolio further with upcoming models such as the VF3 compact electric SUV and the Limo Green electric MPV, expected to launch in early 2026. These additions will help the brand enter lower and mid-range price segments and intensify competition.
While the initial sales numbers indicate strong momentum, sustaining growth will depend on product reliability, customer ownership experience and continued expansion of charging infrastructure as competition in India’s EV space heats up.
