Creta Leads But Mahindra Takes Control
The Hyundai Creta retained its crown with over 2 lakh units sold, although its growth remained modest. Right behind, Mahindra made a powerful statement with the Scorpio, Thar and Bolero securing multiple top positions with strong year-on-year gains.

This clearly shows that while Creta is still the single best-selling SUV, Mahindra now dominates in overall volume. The Thar saw a major surge in demand, while Scorpio continued its consistent performance, making Mahindra the brand to watch in this segment.
Winners, Losers & Market Trends
FY2026 also highlighted some big winners and surprising declines. The MG Windsor emerged as one of the fastest-growing SUVs, while the Toyota Hyryder and Mahindra Thar posted impressive gains.
On the flip side, the Mahindra XUV700 and Maruti Grand Vitara saw significant drops in sales. Despite this, the midsize SUV segment continues to grow, with buyers increasingly preferring SUVs over other body styles.
Overall, the trend is clear – Creta still leads the segment, but Mahindra is rapidly gaining ground and dominating the market with a wider and stronger SUV lineup.
