This EV Charges 10–80% in Just 7 Minutes: Here’s How

Geely 1500 kW charging

Electric vehicle charging speeds are improving rapidly as automakers invest heavily in new infrastructure. Geely has now demonstrated one of the fastest charging technologies yet with its latest charging network and battery system.

During testing, the 2026 Zeekr 001 managed to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in around seven minutes using a new 1,500 kW ultra‑fast charging pile. The development signals the arrival of what the company calls the megawatt charging era.

Zeekr 001 10 to 80 charging time

The demonstration was carried out using the updated Zeekr 001 equipped with Geely’s in‑house Golden Battery. The battery supports a 12C charging rate and works with a high‑voltage 900V architecture designed for extremely fast energy transfer.

According to the company, the system can handle nearly 1,488A of current, helping reduce charging time while maintaining efficiency and heat control. In testing conditions, this allowed the battery to move from 10 to 80 percent state of charge in about seven minutes.

Geely Expands Megawatt Charging Network

Alongside the technology showcase, Geely has expanded its proprietary charging network across China. The company now operates 2,103 stations spanning 215 cities, including thousands of charging points along major highways.

Each megawatt charging pile is engineered to serve around 50 to 60 vehicles daily. To reduce stress on local power grids, stations also use on‑site energy storage buffers ranging from 300 to 500 kWh.
