Tata Motors has introduced Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) pricing for the Tata Punch.ev in India, aiming to rival similar subscription models from MG and Maruti Suzuki. With this strategy, the electric micro-SUV now starts at ₹6.49 lakh, significantly lowering the upfront cost for buyers.

Under the BaaS model, customers purchase the vehicle without the battery pack. The standard price of the Punch.ev facelift starts at ₹9.69 lakh with the battery included, meaning buyers can save ₹3.2 lakh upfront by opting for the subscription-based battery plan.

This move is designed to improve EV affordability in India by reducing the initial purchase barrier while spreading battery costs over usage.

Battery Rental Cost And Charging Details

Customers opting for the BaaS program will pay ₹2.6 per km as battery rental for the base variant. The Punch.ev continues to be offered with 30 kWh and 40 kWh battery options, with the larger pack delivering a claimed range of up to 468 km (ARAI).

The updated model supports 65 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 20 to 80 percent charge in around 26 minutes. A 15-minute top-up can add up to 135 km of driving range.

The Punch.ev is available in multiple variants including Smart, Smart+, Adventure and Empowered trims. With BaaS pricing, Tata aims to directly compete with MG and Maruti, both of which offer battery subscription models for their electric vehicles.

By introducing the BaaS option, Tata Motors is further strengthening its position in India’s affordable electric SUV space and expanding access to EV ownership for a wider set of buyers.
