Tata Motors Records 2,15,034 Unit Sales in Q2 FY25, Decline of 11% YoY.

Domestic Sales Performance

Tata Motors has announced its sales figures for the second quarter of the financial year 2024-25 (Q2 FY25), registering total sales of 2,15,034 units. This marks an 11% decline compared to the 2,43,024 units sold in the same period last year. The company’s performance was impacted by a slowdown in both its commercial vehicle (CV) and passenger vehicle (PV) segments.

Commercial Vehicle Sales Drop by 19% YoY

Commercial Vehicle Sales

Tata Motors reports total commercial vehicle sales of 84,281 units in Q2 FY25, a significant 19% drop compared to the same quarter in FY24. Domestic CV sales stood at 79,931 units, down by 19% year-on-year.

The heavy commercial vehicle segment was particularly affected, with a 25% YoY decline, as 22,904 units were sold, compared to 30,369 units in Q2 FY24. The intermediate and light commercial vehicle segment saw an 11% drop, selling 14,693 units this quarter.

According to Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, the dip in sales was due to factors like a slowdown in infrastructure projects, reduced mining activities, and heavy rains affecting fleet utilization. However, he expressed optimism that with easing rains and increased infrastructure spending in Q3, demand could pick up, especially in the ILMCV and bus segments.

Passenger Vehicle Sales Decline by 6% YoY

Passenger Vehicle Sales

In the passenger vehicle segment, Tata Motors sold 1,30,753 units in Q2 FY25, a 6% decrease from the 1,38,939 units sold in Q2 FY24. Domestic PV sales, Including EVs, totaled 1,29,930 units, down by 6% year-on-year. The company sold 15,642 electric vehicles (EVs) during this period, reflecting a 16% decline YoY, largely due to the lapse of registration and road tax waivers in the Key States.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., noted that despite the current dip, the company expects sales to rebound in Q3, supported by the festive season. Initial deliveries of the newly launched Curvv and the higher-range Nexon EV have commenced, and both models have received a strong consumer response.
