Tata Is Building a Luxury MPV to Beat Volvo EM90;And It’s Wild
Tata Motors is preparing for its boldest move yet. As India’s EV market matures, Tata doesn’t just want to lead in volumes. It now wants to shake up the luxury segment, and the leaked details of its upcoming Avinya MPV show how serious the company is.
The Avinya brand will debut in late 2026, but one model in particular is turning heads inside the industry. Tata is reportedly developing a 6-seater electric MPV designed to challenge the Volvo EM90 and even the Lexus LM, two global benchmarks for chauffeur-driven comfort. For a homegrown brand to enter this segment is a major shift in India’s auto landscape.

What makes this important is the timing. India’s premium EV market is still young, and no domestic brand has tried to compete in this ultra-luxury MPV space. Tata’s entry could open the doors for a new category of high-end electric family and business mobility.
Based on Tata’s new Gen 3 EV architecture, the Avinya MPV is expected to offer a long 550 to 600 km range, advanced tech, and rear-seat luxury focused on comfort. Think dual passenger displays, high-end audio, ADAS Level 3 and a lounge-like experience. If Tata prices it around the expected 60 lakh bracket, it could undercut global rivals by a massive margin.

The road to launch is still long, with estimates pointing to 2028 or 2029. But if Tata delivers on this vision, the luxury EV segment in India may never look the same again.
