New MG Commute EV Launched at ₹13.49 Lakh – Here’s What MG Removed
MG has launched the MG Commute EV in India at ₹13.49 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as a more affordable, fleet-focused version of the Windsor EV. While it shares many features with the base Windsor, MG has removed a few elements to keep costs lower.
MG Commute EV Price, Battery and Key Details
The MG Commute is priced around ₹60,000 lower than the Windsor Excite base variant. It uses the same 38 kWh battery pack, paired with an electric motor producing 136 PS and 200 Nm.

The claimed range stands at 332 km on a single charge. Charging options include a 3.2 kW AC charger and support for 45 kW DC fast charging. This setup remains unchanged from the standard Windsor EV.
Unlike the regular model, the Commute is aimed primarily at fleet operators. It may also include features like speed limitations and telematics for commercial usage.
Features Offered in MG Commute EV

Despite being a cost-focused variant, the Commute still offers a decent feature set. It comes with LED headlamps, rear fog lamps, flush door handles and 17-inch steel wheels.
Inside, the cabin gets a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, tilt and telescopic steering, and a front armrest. The rear seats are reclining and split-folding, adding practicality.
Convenience features include cruise control, keyless entry, all power windows with one-touch functions and a smart digital gear selector. Interestingly, the infotainment setup is minimal, with a single speaker instead of a full system.
On the safety front, the Commute gets six airbags, all-disc brakes, ESC, hill descent control and TPMS, making it well-equipped for daily usage.
What MG Removed Compared to Windsor Base
To achieve the lower price, MG has removed several features compared to the Windsor base variant. The most noticeable omission is the touchscreen infotainment system, along with steering-mounted audio controls.
The Commute also misses out on connected LED DRLs and light bars, which are part of the standard Windsor’s design appeal. These changes give the Commute a more basic look.
Overall, the feature cuts are clearly focused on reducing cost and making the vehicle suitable for fleet buyers rather than private users.
For most private buyers, the standard Windsor EV would still be the better option. However, for fleet operators looking for an affordable electric vehicle with essential features and strong range, the MG Commute makes a practical choice.
