Narendra Modi Gives Vladimir Putin A Ride In His Toyota Fortuner In Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi surprised everyone during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s arrival in Delhi by personally receiving him at Palam Airport and driving him to his residence in a white Toyota Fortuner. The moment highlighted India’s diplomatic confidence and strong partnership with Russia.

A Strong Welcome Gesture

Putin travelled to India at a time of major global geopolitical tension. Instead of following usual protocol, PM Modi chose to welcome Putin himself on the tarmac. The two leaders shook hands and shared a brief interaction before getting into the same SUV.

This act reflected trust and mutual respect between the nations. It also sent a clear message about India’s independent foreign policy stance.

Why a Toyota Fortuner?

The choice of vehicle became the biggest talking point. Putin set aside his own armoured limousine and joined PM Modi in the Fortuner. It symbolised simplicity and a low profile, even in a high-stakes diplomatic moment.

The Fortuner involved in this visit carried a Maharashtra registration (MH01EN5795). It is an armoured version of the 2024 Toyota Fortuner Sigma 4 MT. The stock model uses a 2.8 litre turbo diesel engine with around 200hp and 420Nm. It comes with a manual gearbox and 4×2 setup.

In its regular form, the SUV costs under Rs 50 lakh ex-showroom. With security upgrades, the value rises significantly, though still modest compared to Russia’s Aurus Senat limousine.

A Political Symbol

The Fortuner already enjoys a strong presence among Indian politicians. This incident will only strengthen that image. It shows India is willing to make symbolic moves that reflect confidence and strategic alignment.

Putin’s decision to ride with PM Modi displayed Moscow’s trust in New Delhi. The gesture also highlighted the long standing partnership between both countries.

Behind Toyota Fortuner

Security and Protocol

Massive security arrangements were in place across Delhi. Although the Fortuner itself looked subtle without VIP plates, the convoy, traffic restrictions and route protection ensured complete safety.

Verdict

A simple Toyota Fortuner carried a powerful message. The ride showcased trust, friendship and India’s bold diplomatic approach. It became more than just a vehicle choice. It was a moment that captured how India sees its role on the global stage today.
