China’s New Electric MPV Has 646 HP And A 50-Inch Display

China continues to push boundaries in the EV space, and the new Buick GL8 Encasa EV is a strong example. Launched at 489,900 yuan, this luxury electric MPV combines massive power with a tech-loaded cabin and a claimed range of over 600 km. While it is currently limited to China, it hints at what future premium MPVs in India could look like.

50-Inch Display, Captain Seats, and Luxury Cabin Set New Benchmark

The standout highlight is a massive 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, paired with dual 16.3-inch screens for the driver and front passenger. The second row offers captain seats with ventilation, heating, massage functions and extendable leg rests, creating a lounge-like experience.

Passengers also get a 21-inch 4K roof-mounted screen for entertainment. Premium touches include a built-in refrigerator with heating function, a 16-speaker Bose sound system, air suspension and a soft-touch interior finish throughout.

646 HP Power, 601 KM Range, and Fast Charging Make It A Standout

The GL8 Encasa EV uses a dual-motor setup producing 646 hp and 550 Nm of torque, enabling 0–100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. It packs a 96 kWh battery with a claimed 601 km range (CLTC).

Thanks to its 900V architecture, it can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 11 minutes under ideal conditions. At this price, it undercuts key rivals while offering strong performance and luxury appeal.
