Chery Might Launch a Prado-Style SUV Soon
Chery could expand its future lineup with a large off-road SUV inspired by the traditional ladder-frame 4WD formula. The potential model would likely be based on the company’s upcoming KP31 dual-cab ute platform.
Company executives say the idea is being considered, but there are currently no confirmed plans. If developed, the SUV could target established models in the large seven-seat off-road segment.
Chery Considering a Prado-Style SUV

Chery Australia chief operating officer Lucas Harris recently suggested the brand could eventually introduce a large SUV derived from its new ute platform. However, he noted that it is still too early to confirm whether the project will move forward.
A future model would likely compete with well-known off-road SUVs such as the Toyota Prado, Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X, and newer rivals like the GWM Tank 500 and Denza B5.
For now, the company’s focus remains on successfully launching its first dual-cab ute in Australia before expanding the lineup further.
New KP31 Ute Platform Could Spawn the SUV

Chery is preparing to launch its first dual-cab ute, codenamed KP31, in the Australian market in late 2026. The model is expected to debut with a diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain, followed by a petrol plug-in hybrid variant in 2027.
The ute is expected to offer a one-tonne payload, a 3500kg towing capacity, and strong off-road capability. If the vehicle proves successful, the same platform could later support a large seven-seat SUV.
