2026 Jeep Wrangler No Longer Flips in IIHS Crash Test

Wrangler IIHS Test Result

The Jeep Wrangler has finally resolved a long‑standing issue highlighted in crash testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Earlier versions of the SUV repeatedly tipped onto their side during the driver‑side small overlap crash test, which resulted in a lower safety rating despite otherwise strong protection scores.

Jeep Fixes Wrangler Crash Test Issue

In previous IIHS evaluations, the Wrangler performed well in terms of structural integrity and dummy injury measures. However, the vehicle’s tendency to roll onto its side during the crash simulation led to a downgraded rating. Jeep engineers addressed the problem by introducing a redesigned frame rail structure aimed at improving stability during impact.

Safety Rating Improves for 2026

With the updated design, the 2026 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited now remains upright in the small overlap crash test. This improvement allowed IIHS to upgrade the SUV’s rating from “Marginal” to “Acceptable.”

However, the Wrangler still falls short of the highest “Good” rating because testing found a higher risk of injury to the front passenger’s foot and lower leg during the passenger‑side small overlap crash.

Wranglers produced after October 2025 include the revised frame rail design, and the same update has also been applied to the Jeep Gladiator pickup.
