Upcoming Triber Rival Nissan Gravite Goes Public on Jan 21
Nissan’s India story is about to take a practical turn. On January 21, the brand will officially unveil the Gravite, its first compact MPV and a direct challenger to the Renault Triber. While this may look like a routine product reveal, the Gravite carries far bigger implications for Nissan’s long-term relevance in the Indian market.
The sub-4m MPV space is small but strategic. Buyers here want seven seats, low running costs and city-friendly dimensions, without stepping into SUV pricing territory. Until now, Renault has enjoyed a near-monopoly with the Triber. The Gravite changes that equation overnight, giving value-focused families and fleet buyers a genuine alternative.

Underneath, the Gravite is expected to share its CMF-A+ platform with the Triber, which helps Nissan keep costs in check. However, differentiation will come through revised exterior elements, cabin trim choices and feature packaging. Expect Nissan to lean on design tweaks and tech additions to create a distinct identity rather than reinvent the formula.
Power is likely to come from the familiar 1.0-litre petrol engine with manual and AMT options, keeping ownership simple and affordable. A CNG option later could further widen its appeal in cost-sensitive markets.

More importantly, the Gravite marks the first of three Nissan launches planned for India by 2027. If priced smartly, it could signal the start of a more grounded, India-first product strategy—something Nissan has been missing for years.
