Hyundai Creta retained its leadership with 17,921 units sold in January 2026. This represented a 3 per cent year-on-year decline from 18,522 units last year but was still enough to keep the model ahead of rivals.

Mahindra Scorpio secured second position with 15,542 units, showing nearly flat year-on-year growth over 15,442 units. The recently introduced Maruti Suzuki Victoris finished third with 15,240 units, highlighting strong early customer acceptance.
Mahindra XUV 7XO followed with 10,133 units. The model represents a more premium positioning within Mahindra’s SUV portfolio.
Key Movers and Growth Trends in Segment

Kia Seltos posted one of the strongest performances with 10,639 units, registering a 64 per cent year-on-year increase after its recent generational update.
Toyota Hyryder also showed notable growth with 9,156 units, marking an 85 per cent rise compared to the same period last year. In contrast, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara saw a significant drop to 7,030 units from 15,784 units a year earlier.
Tata Harrier and Safari recorded healthy gains as well, growing 149 per cent and 53 per cent respectively during the month.
Segment Outlook and Upcoming SUVs

The midsize SUV category continues to remain highly competitive with strong participation from both established models and newer entrants. Demand remains steady across petrol, hybrid and upcoming electric SUV options.
New ICE and EV launches expected later this year could further reshape the segment as manufacturers expand their portfolios to capture evolving customer preferences.
Overall, January 2026 sales reflect sustained interest in midsize SUVs in India, with competition expected to intensify through the year.
