MG Joins the Price Hike Wave Ahead of 2026
JSW-MG Motor India has joined a growing list of automakers planning price increases from the start of 2026. The revision, capped at 2 percent, will apply across MG’s entire portfolio and comes into effect on January 1.
While annual price hikes are not unusual, this announcement reflects a deeper pressure building within the auto industry. Rising input costs, from raw materials to logistics, continue to squeeze margins. Add to that currency fluctuations and compliance-related expenses, and manufacturers are left with limited room to absorb costs internally.

For buyers, the timing is important. A 2 percent hike may not dramatically change monthly EMIs, but it does impact on-road prices, insurance slabs, and long-term ownership costs. Those considering MG models like the Hector, Astor, or ZS EV may find December 2025 a smarter window to lock in current prices.
There’s also a strategic layer here. MG is navigating transitions, including powertrain reshuffles and upcoming product updates. Pricing adjustments help brands recalibrate before a new financial year and future launches.
Looking ahead, this move reinforces a trend Indian buyers should expect. Car prices are unlikely to soften anytime soon. Delaying a purchase in hopes of discounts may increasingly work against the customer rather than in their favour.
