Maruti e Vitara Electric SUV Delay: Big Update Before India Launch
The Maruti e Vitara has been one of the most anticipated electric SUVs in India. Initially showcased on December 2, 2025, many expected an immediate launch. However, Maruti has now confirmed that the official launch will take place in January 2026, with deliveries starting the same month. This slight delay has raised questions among EV buyers eagerly waiting for the company’s first full-electric SUV.
Why the Delay?
The e Vitara has already faced multiple delays, first due to battery supply and software calibration issues. The latest shift is linked to a global shortage of rare-earth magnets, which are essential for electric vehicle EV motors.

Maruti is also prioritising exports for the initial production batch from its Gujarat facility, before ramping up sales for the Indian market.
Expected Pricing
Maruti is expected to price the e Vitara between ₹20 lakh and ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom). This puts it directly against electric SUVs from Tata, MG and Hyundai.
Variants and Electric Powertrains
The e Vitara will be offered in multiple trims with two battery options:
- 49 kWh battery with up to 344 km WLTP range
- 61 kWh battery with up to 543 km ARAI range
Power output will vary between 144 PS and 174 PS, depending on the variant.
Design & Features
The e Vitara gets a modern electric SUV design with LED projector headlights, aero-style alloy wheels and a wraparound LED light bar. Inside, a premium black-tan cabin houses a dual-screen setup with a 10.1-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital cluster.

Safety & ADAS
Safety highlights include 7 airbags and Level-2 ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and automatic emergency braking. It also targets a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating.
Conclusion
The delay isn’t major, and demand for the Maruti e Vitara remains strong. With competitive pricing, long-range options and strong safety tech, it is still on track to become one of India’s most popular electric SUVs when it arrives in early 2026.
