Caterpillar Reveals High-Tech Pickup Truck Based on Ford Super Duty

Caterpillar has unveiled a unique pickup truck prototype at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 exhibition in Las Vegas. Known for building heavy construction machinery, the company is now experimenting with a tech-focused pickup designed to help manage construction sites more efficiently.

The concept answers years of speculation about whether Caterpillar would ever build its own truck. However, instead of developing an entirely new vehicle, the company has based the project on an existing heavy-duty pickup platform.

Caterpillar Pickup Truck Uses Ford Super Duty Platform

The prototype is essentially built on the Ford Super Duty F-450 platform and uses the same 6.7-litre Power Stroke high-output V8 diesel engine. Caterpillar has added its own identity with bold CAT branding, yellow accents and a rugged body kit inspired by its industrial equipment.

Interestingly, the Ford logo still appears on the infotainment screen, confirming that the truck is a heavily modified Super Duty rather than a completely new Caterpillar-built vehicle.

Jobsite Technology Turns the Truck Into a Mobile Command Center

The main focus of the CAT truck is technology designed to improve safety and productivity on construction sites. The Detect Camera system can identify workers who get too close to operating machinery and issue alerts, while the Driver Safety System monitors operator fatigue.

Inside the cabin, an integrated display combines the CAT AI Assistant with VisionLink productivity tools. This allows drivers to track equipment status, jobsite activity and project progress from a single dashboard.

Drone Launch System and Production Plans

Another highlight is the roof-mounted autonomous drone launch station. The drone can inspect terrain, map project progress or deliver small parts to workers in hard-to-reach areas.

For now, the CAT truck remains a concept and production has not been confirmed. However, Caterpillar suggests that many of the safety and productivity technologies shown on the prototype could eventually be offered as upgrades for existing trucks.
