Electric cars are set to become significantly more affordable in Delhi, with a new EV policy proposing incentives of up to ₹1 lakh. Popular models like the Tata Nexon EV, Punch EV and MG Windsor are expected to benefit, making them even more attractive for buyers in the capital.

The benefit, however, will not be a direct price cut from manufacturers but will come through government incentives and tax exemptions.

New EV Policy Brings ₹1 Lakh Benefit With Scrappage Rule

The proposed policy offers up to ₹1 lakh incentive for private electric cars priced below ₹15 lakh (ex-factory). To qualify, buyers must scrap an older BS4 or previous-generation vehicle registered in Delhi at an authorised facility.

The incentive will be transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency. However, the benefit will be limited to the first one lakh eligible applicants, encouraging early adoption.

Models like the Tata Nexon EV, Punch EV and MG Windsor, along with Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Citroen eC3 and MG Comet, fall within the eligible price bracket in select variants.

In addition, Delhi will continue to offer 100 percent exemption on road tax and registration fees for EVs until March 31, 2030. This further reduces the overall cost of ownership, making electric cars a more practical option for buyers.

With these combined benefits, the effective price of several mass-market EVs could drop by over ₹1 lakh in Delhi.
