New 2026 Freelander Electric SUV: Key Details

Previewed by the Concept 97, the new Freelander showcases a rugged and boxy design inspired by classic Land Rover styling. The production version is expected to stay close to this concept, retaining its bold SUV stance and premium appeal.
Built on a new 800V architecture, the Freelander will support multiple powertrains, including pure electric, plug-in hybrid, and range-extender setups. This flexible platform positions it as a future-ready SUV for global markets.

On the tech front, the SUV will feature Huawei’s advanced driver assistance system with LiDAR, a Qualcomm Snapdragon automotive chip, and a CATL-developed battery with ultra-fast charging capability. It will also introduce an intelligent all-terrain system designed to enhance off-road performance.
Global Launch Plans and What’s Next
The new Freelander will launch first in China, with Europe confirmed as the next key market. The brand plans an aggressive expansion strategy, introducing a new model every six months over the next five years.
Interestingly, the Freelander is expected to replace the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque in China production, signaling a major shift in JLR’s product strategy.

While detailed specifications such as range, battery size, and pricing have not been revealed yet, more information is expected closer to launch.
Although not officially confirmed, the Freelander’s global positioning means an India launch could be possible in the future.
