Upcoming BYD cars in India

BYD is steadily expanding its presence in the Indian market as demand for electric vehicles continues to grow. The Chinese manufacturer already sells premium EVs in the country and is now preparing a wider lineup to strengthen its position.

Several new models are expected to arrive in the coming years, including smaller electric vehicles and even a plug-in hybrid SUV. Here is a look at four upcoming BYD cars that could launch in India.

1. BYD Atto 2

The Atto 2 is expected to become BYD’s entry-level electric SUV in India. Positioned below the Atto 3, this model has already been spotted testing on Indian roads, indicating that the launch could happen in the near future.

Internationally, the electric SUV is offered with a 45.1 kWh battery pack that produces around 175 PS and 290 Nm of torque. It is claimed to deliver a driving range of roughly 380 km on a single charge.

The Atto 2 is also expected to feature a premium cabin with a large rotating touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and advanced driver assistance systems.

2. BYD Dolphin

The Dolphin is an electric hatchback that is already sold in several global markets. It is designed as a practical urban EV and could help BYD enter the more affordable end of the electric car segment in India.

Globally, the Dolphin is available with two battery options. The smaller 32 kWh battery delivers a claimed range of about 302 km, while the larger 45 kWh version can offer up to 420 km.

Key features include a touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument display, multiple airbags and electronic stability control.

3. Updated BYD Seal

BYD Seal RWD Sedan

BYD recently showcased an updated version of its Seal electric sedan internationally. While the overall design remains similar to the existing model, the updated version introduces improvements to the battery and efficiency.

The new version replaces the earlier 61 kWh battery with a larger 69.07 kWh unit. This upgrade is claimed to deliver a driving range of up to 705 km under ideal conditions.

The sedan continues to offer a premium interior with a floating touchscreen, large sunroof, 360-degree camera and advanced safety features.

4. BYD Sealion 6

BYD Sealion

The Sealion 6 will be different from most BYD models sold in India as it is a plug-in hybrid SUV rather than a pure electric vehicle. The SUV was previously showcased in India and is expected to be considered for launch as the market for hybrid vehicles continues to expand.

Internationally, the Sealion 6 is available with a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain. The standard version produces around 217 PS and sends power to the front wheels.

A more powerful turbo plug-in hybrid variant produces over 320 PS and features an all-wheel-drive setup. If introduced in India, the turbocharged plug-in hybrid version is likely to attract more attention due to its higher performance.
