2 New Tata Curvv EV Rivals Coming This Month – From Toyota & Maruti

2 New Creta EV Rivals Coming

India’s mid-size electric SUV segment is about to see a major shift, with Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor preparing to introduce their first electric SUVs for the Indian market. Both models are closely related and are expected to take on the Tata Curvv EV and Creta EV directly, which have quickly become a reference point in this space.

What makes these launches significant is that both EVs are already being manufactured in India at Suzuki Motor Gujarat’s Hansalpur plant. While they have been on sale in select international markets like Indonesia for some time, their India debut marks a crucial step for both brands as they officially enter the mass-market EV race.

Maruti e Vitara: Maruti Suzuki’s First Electric SUV

Maruti e Vitara Confirmed with 543km ARAI Certified Range

Maruti Suzuki’s long-awaited electric debut will come in the form of the e Vitara. First showcased at Auto Expo 2025, the e Vitara signals Maruti’s shift towards electrification while retaining a familiar SUV format for Indian buyers. The company has already begun exporting this model, and a recent media drive in India suggests that its launch timeline is now close.

In terms of size, the e Vitara sits squarely in the same bracket as the Tata Curvv EV. It measures 4,275 mm in length and rides on a long 2,700 mm wheelbase, promising a spacious cabin. Maruti will offer the e Vitara exclusively with front-wheel drive, paired with two motor and battery configurations.

The entry version uses a 49 kWh LFP battery pack combined with an electric motor producing 142 hp and 192.5 Nm of torque. Higher variants get a larger 61 kWh LFP battery and a more powerful 172 hp motor, with Maruti claiming a maximum range of up to 543 km. This puts it right in the competitive zone for buyers considering the Curvv EV.

On the features front, Maruti has confirmed highlights such as large alloy wheels, a fully digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, flexible rear seat configurations and seven airbags, indicating a clear focus on safety and comfort.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Familiar Hardware, Premium Touch

Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV Side

Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s electric offering will arrive as the Urban Cruiser EV, which is essentially a corporate cousin of the Maruti e Vitara. While the underlying platform, battery packs and motors are expected to be identical, Toyota has given the Urban Cruiser a distinct design identity.

Up front, the Urban Cruiser EV features a cleaner and more sophisticated look, with a flatter bonnet, sleek headlamps and a closed-off grille design. Subtle changes to the bumper and body panels give it a more premium appearance compared to its Maruti sibling. Elsewhere, the overall silhouette and proportions remain largely unchanged.

Inside, the Urban Cruiser EV mirrors the e Vitara’s cabin layout, with the primary differences limited to Toyota-specific branding and trim details. Toyota is expected to offer the same two battery options and motor outputs, which should translate to a similar claimed range of up to 543 km.

Why Tata Curvv EV Is the Benchmark

The Tata Curvv EV has established itself as a strong contender in the mid-size electric SUV segment thanks to its distinctive coupe-SUV styling, competitive range figures and feature-rich package. It has also benefited from Tata Motors’ growing EV ecosystem and charging network across India.

With Maruti and Toyota entering this space together, buyers will soon have more choice in terms of brand trust, design philosophy and ownership experience, all within a similar size and price bracket.

What This Means for Indian EV Buyers

The arrival of the e Vitara and Urban Cruiser EV will significantly intensify competition in the mid-size electric SUV segment. Maruti’s widespread service network and Toyota’s reputation for reliability could attract a new set of buyers who were previously hesitant about switching to an EV.

With these two launches expected this month, the Tata Curvv EV will soon face its most serious competition yet, making this an important period for anyone planning to buy an electric SUV in India.
