Yezdi Trademark Battle Ends – Classic Legends Wins Full Rights

Yezdi Trademark Battle Ends

The Karnataka High Court has officially ruled in favour of Boman Irani and Classic Legends, granting them full rights over the legendary Yezdi motorcycle trademark. This brings an end to the long-standing dispute involving the defunct Ideal Jawa and its Official Liquidator.

The Division Bench stated that Ideal Jawa had abandoned the trademark due to decades of non-use. The company stopped production in 1996, entered liquidation in 2001, and the trademark lapsed between 2007 and 2008. With no attempt to renew or commercially protect the brand for over 15 years, the court confirmed that the goodwill had expired.

Meanwhile, Boman Irani, whose family has historic ties with Yezdi, took active steps to keep the brand alive. He secured new trademark registrations starting in 2013, maintained the Yezdi online presence and later partnered with Mahindra-backed Classic Legends to revive the brand in India.

This ruling now clears the road for Classic Legends to invest confidently in Yezdi’s future, without legal uncertainty. Dealers, suppliers and customers can expect stronger market stability and new product rollouts ahead. For fans of the iconic motorcycle nameplate, this verdict signals a fresh and secure revival of Yezdi in India’s rapidly growing premium bike segment.
