Black Editions: The Rising Trend in India

The trend of blacked-out special edition cars is growing fast in India. Buyers are loving the bold, sporty look, and carmakers are responding with new Dark Editions to match the demand. While Tata has been leading the charge, other brands are now following suit. This April, we’re set to see two more special editions make their way to the market—the Tata Curvv Dark Edition and the Citroën Basalt Dark Edition.

The Tata Curvv Dark Edition is expected to launch this April. It’s going to carry the signature blacked-out treatment that Tata’s #Dark badge is known for. The exterior will be all black, including the trims and alloy wheels, which gives it a more aggressive road presence. Inside, Tata is continuing the dark theme with black leatherette seats, piano black accents, and premium dark-themed cabin finishes.

This version will be based on the top-spec Accomplished variant of the Curvv, so expect a fully loaded feature list. That includes LED lighting, a 360-degree camera, premium upholstery, and more. Under the hood, it’ll get the same engine options as the standard model—a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine delivering 125 bhp and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel producing 118 bhp. Both manual and 7-speed DCT automatic transmissions will be available.

Notably, the Curvv is the official car for IPL 2025, which should help it grab attention when the Dark Edition arrives in showrooms.

Citroën is also jumping into the dark-themed game with the upcoming Basalt Dark Edition. Also expected to arrive this April, the Basalt will get a full black exterior makeover along with darkened elements throughout the design. Citroën hasn’t revealed exact powertrain details yet, but it’s likely to carry over the options from the standard Basalt SUV-coupe.

The interior is expected to match Citroën’s usual focus on comfort and premium feel, but with a sleek blacked-out twist to enhance the sporty appeal. The brand is aiming to make a statement with this special edition, appealing to buyers who want something more visually distinctive.

Black Is the New Bold

With the success of Tata’s Dark Edition models, it’s no surprise that other brands are looking to cash in on the formula. These upcoming Black Editions are designed to bring exclusivity, attitude, and road presence—and Indian buyers seem to love it.

As both the Tata Curvv and Citroën Basalt Dark Editions prepare for launch in April 2025, the growing popularity of stealthy styling combined with feature-packed offerings makes it clear—black is definitely the new bold.
