Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV Unveiled In Indonesia: India Launch Expected In 2026
Toyota has strengthened its electric vehicle presence in Indonesia by showcasing the Urban Cruiser BEV at GJAW 2025. The midsize electric SUV is positioned as a more accessible alternative to the bZ4X and adds fresh momentum to Toyota’s growing global BEV lineup. Positioned below the bZ4X, the new midsize electric SUV brings competitive pricing and promising specifications. Its introduction in Indonesia also hints strongly at Toyota’s strategy for the Indian market in the coming year.
Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV Launched in Indonesia

Toyota has priced the Urban Cruiser BEV at IDR 759 million (around ₹40.78 lakh OTR Jakarta), placing it just below the locally assembled bZ4X. Unlike the bZ4X, the Urban Cruiser BEV arrives as a full CBU import. It was showcased alongside Toyota’s larger electric SUV and drew attention for offering a more accessible entry point into the brand’s EV lineup.
The bZ4X itself has seen a major price correction in Indonesia thanks to local assembly, making it more competitive for buyers shifting to premium electric SUVs. With a 73.11 kWh battery, up to 525 km range and 221 hp output, it sits slightly higher at IDR 799 million (₹42.93 lakh OTR Jakarta). Despite the price difference, both EVs aim at strengthening Toyota’s presence in the region’s growing electric SUV space.

Battery, Range and Performance
The Urban Cruiser BEV uses a 61.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and delivers a claimed range of 426.7 km. Its electric motor produces 172 hp and 192 Nm, offering enough performance for daily commutes and highway runs. While smaller than the bZ4X’s 73.11 kWh battery, the setup remains practical for a midsize electric SUV.
Toyota’s focus with the Urban Cruiser BEV appears to be balanced performance, range stability and real-world efficiency rather than outright output. The powertrain is expected to suit emerging EV markets like India, where range and affordability are key purchase factors.
Features and Platform Shared With Maruti e Vitara

The Urban Cruiser BEV is equipped with Toyota’s T Intouch connected suite, offering remote vehicle access, status monitoring and security alerts, enabling features such as live vehicle data, remote access and status monitoring. The bZ4X gets additional functions, including an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot and immobiliser, but the Urban Cruiser BEV still offers a strong connected package.
A major highlight for India is its shared platform with the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. Both electric SUVs are built on the Heartect e architecture and manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat facility. Toyota’s version is expected to carry the brand’s familiar design identity while sharing major components with its Maruti counterpart.
Expected India Launch & Positioning

Toyota is likely to introduce the Urban Cruiser BEV in India during the first half of 2026, positioning it against the upcoming wave of midsize electric SUVs, positioned in the competitive midsize electric SUV segment. It will take on models like the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE.05 and Maruti’s own e Vitara.
Thanks to shared production and localisation, Toyota may price the electric SUV between ₹18 lakh and ₹22 lakh (ex-showroom). This would give it a strong value proposition in the growing EV space while allowing Toyota to establish a larger footprint in India’s electric SUV market.
The Urban Cruiser BEV is expected to help Toyota re-enter the compact SUV market with a modern electric offering, making it an important product for the brand’s future strategy.
The upcoming launch is likely to attract both early EV adopters and Toyota loyalists seeking a practical and efficient electric SUV.
