Skoda kylaq vs kia syros real world mileage
TL:DRTL;DR

Autocar India’s real-world tests show the Skoda Kylaq is more fuel-efficient than the Kia Syros, both in manual and automatic forms. The Kylaq delivers up to 2 km/l more mileage, making it the more economical compact SUV overall.

The compact SUV segment is packed with contenders, but the Skoda Kylaq and Kia Syros stand out with their turbo-petrol engines and premium features. To settle the debate on efficiency, both SUVs were tested under real-world driving conditions — and the results are in.

Specifications Overview

Both the Skoda Kylaq and Kia Syros feature 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines with nearly identical specs. The Kylaq produces 115hp and 178Nm, while the Syros generates 120hp and 172Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and automatic for the Kylaq, while the Syros offers a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT automatic.

Despite their similarities, the Kylaq is marginally lighter and boasts better ARAI-rated mileage figures, ranging up to 19.68kpl compared to the Syros’ 17.68kpl.

Manual Transmission Mileage Results

In manual guise, the Kylaq outperformed the Syros across the board. It returned 10.6kpl in the city and 15.15kpl on the highway, averaging 12.87kpl overall. The Syros, by comparison, managed 9.1kpl city, 12.6kpl highway, and 10.85kpl average. This gives the Skoda a real-world advantage of around 2kpl, translating to a longer range per tank.

Automatic Transmission Mileage Results

The difference narrows with the automatics, but the Kylaq still edges ahead. It achieved 10.85kpl average, nearly 1kpl higher than the Syros DCT’s 9.9kpl. Both perform similarly in city conditions, but the Kylaq shines on open roads, offering superior highway efficiency and a longer driving range.

Testing Methodology

These figures come from Autocar India’s exhaustive real-world fuel efficiency tests. Cars were filled to the brim, driven across controlled city and highway loops in Navi Mumbai, and maintained under standard conditions with air conditioning and electricals running. Each vehicle was driven by multiple drivers to ensure accuracy.

Conclusion

The results are clear: the Skoda Kylaq is the more fuel-efficient SUV, both in manual and automatic forms. While the Kia Syros offers slightly more power and refinement, the Kylaq’s lighter build and superior efficiency make it the better choice for long-term savings on fuel.
