MG Astor Now More Expensive Than Hyundai Creta – Here’s Why

The MG Astor has always been a strong contender in the compact SUV segment, competing directly with the Hyundai Creta. However, MG has now increased its prices, making the Astor more expensive than its rival. With a starting price of Rs 11.30 lakh (ex-showroom), it now costs Rs 20,000 more than the base variant of the Hyundai Creta. Let’s take a closer look at what’s changed in the 2025 MG Astor.
Price Hike & Variants
The MG Astor was initially launched at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), but the price has now been increased by Rs 1.30 lakh. The latest pricing structure starts at Rs 11.30 lakh and goes up to Rs 17.56 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is available in five variants: Sprint, Shine, Select, Sharp Pro, and Savvy Pro.
No Mechanical Changes
Despite the price hike, MG has not introduced any updates to the Astor’s powertrain. It continues to be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 110 HP and 144 Nm of torque, available with a manual or CVT gearbox. There’s also a more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, delivering 140 HP and 220 Nm of torque, paired with an automatic transmission.

Exterior & Interior Updates
In terms of design, the 2025 MG Astor remains identical to its predecessor. It retains its signature hexagonal grille with chrome accents, stylish LED headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin, there are no significant design changes. However, the new Shine variant now comes with a panoramic sunroof and a six-speaker audio system, making it the first car in its segment to offer this feature at its price point (Rs 12.48 lakh, ex-showroom).
Conclusion
While the price increase makes the MG Astor more expensive than the Hyundai Creta, it still offers a premium design, advanced tech, and segment-first features. The question remains—does the updated Astor justify its new price tag? Let us know your thoughts!
