Mahindra XUV 3XO and Mini Scorpio Spotted Testing Ahead of India Launch
Mahindra is preparing two new compact SUVs, the next-gen XUV 3XO and a mini Scorpio, expected between 2026 and 2028. Both will offer ICE, hybrid, and electric options to strengthen Mahindra’s compact SUV lineup in India.
Mahindra’s Next Wave of Compact SUVs
Mahindra continues to dominate India’s SUV market, and its momentum shows no signs of slowing down. After the success of the Scorpio-N and XUV700, the company is preparing to strengthen its compact SUV presence with two exciting models – the next-generation Mahindra XUV 3XO and the all-new mini Scorpio. These new additions will help Mahindra tap into the growing demand for urban-friendly SUVs that also offer hybrid and electric options.
While Mahindra hasn’t confirmed launch timelines, the baby Scorpio is expected to debut in late 2026, with its market launch following in 2027. The new XUV 3XO is expected to arrive by 2028, based on the company’s product roadmap. Both SUVs are part of Mahindra’s broader plan to expand its hybrid and EV portfolio.
Next-Gen Mahindra XUV 3XO – What to Expect
The upcoming XUV 3XO will likely take inspiration from the Mahindra Vision X concept showcased on Independence Day. Built on Mahindra’s modular NU_IQ platform, which supports ICE, hybrid, and EV powertrains, the SUV will bring a bold and futuristic design.
Expect a muscular stance, closed-off grille, coupe-like rear glass, and sculpted bonnet. The concept also featured aero-style alloy wheels, sharp door creases, and flush-fitting door handles, which may influence the final production version. Inside, Mahindra is expected to introduce a refreshed dashboard layout with new materials and connected tech features.
Powertrain options could include petrol, hybrid, and full-electric variants. Mahindra is reportedly developing a new strong-hybrid system that may debut with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine on the XUV 3XO by 2026. This could make it one of the most fuel-efficient upcoming Mahindra SUVs in India.

Mini Mahindra Scorpio – A Baby SUV with Big Ambitions
The mini Scorpio will draw styling cues from the Mahindra Vision S concept, which hinted at a rugged, lifestyle-oriented SUV. The concept showcased inverted L-shaped headlamps, pixel-style fog lamps, roof-mounted lights, and thick cladding. While some elements may not reach production, the overall design will retain Scorpio’s tough and adventurous character.
Spy shots suggest a modern cabin with a dual-screen setup, a three-spoke steering wheel, vertically stacked AC vents, and a panoramic sunroof. Grab handles for both front and rear passengers highlight its off-road DNA.
Engine details are yet to be confirmed, but the mini Scorpio is expected to offer multiple options, including ICE, hybrid, and electric powertrains – keeping pace with Mahindra’s push for sustainable mobility in the compact SUV segment.
The Road Ahead
With these two compact SUVs, Mahindra aims to capture a broader range of buyers, from urban commuters to adventure enthusiasts. Both models will play a key role in expanding Mahindra’s hybrid and EV portfolio, while taking on rivals like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Maruti Brezza. If Mahindra delivers on its promises, these upcoming SUVs could redefine the compact SUV market in India.
