Hyundai’s Next-Gen Hydrogen SUV Offers 700 KM Range & Rapid Refueling

Hyundai has unveiled the next-generation Nexo Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show. This latest iteration of the hydrogen-powered SUV brings significant upgrades in both design and performance. With a driving range of over 700 km on a single fill-up and a refueling time of just five minutes, it sets a new benchmark in the fuel-cell vehicle segment.

Bold New Design Inspired by the Initium Concept

The updated Hyundai Nexo embraces a completely new design language, drawing inspiration from the brand’s Initium concept. Unlike its predecessor, which had a curvy profile, the new model adopts a boxy, rugged appearance. The front end is highlighted by an ‘HTWO’ LED headlamp setup featuring four distinct light clusters, while contrasting black fender flares add to its robust stance.

The side profile includes squared-off windows, a thick C-pillar splitting the glass, and a flat roofline that sharply slopes at the rear. The rear section carries over the block-pattern tail lamps from the Initium concept, further enhancing its futuristic appeal. Hyundai’s three-coat paint technique also allows the body color to shift with changing light conditions.

Luxurious Cabin Packed with Tech & Comfort

Inside, the new Nexo boasts a premium and tech-laden cabin. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster seamlessly integrates with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other high-end features include:

  • 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system for immersive sound quality
  • Ventilated seats with leg rests for superior comfort
  • Dual wireless smartphone chargers
  • AI-powered voice assistant
  • Digital rear-view mirror for improved visibility
  • Ambient lighting to enhance the cabin experience
  • Dash cams and fingerprint authentication for added security

Performance & Powertrain Upgrades

Under the hood, the Hyundai Nexo FCEV is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell system paired with a 2.64 kWh battery. The vehicle’s electric motor delivers 201 hp, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds. The hydrogen tank, with a capacity of 6.69 kg, enables the SUV to travel up to 700 km on a single fill-up. With a refueling time of just five minutes, the Nexo offers an experience similar to traditional fuel-powered vehicles but with zero emissions.

The Future of Hydrogen Mobility?

With the unveiling of the new Nexo, Hyundai continues to push the boundaries of hydrogen mobility. The combination of a long driving range, rapid refueling, and cutting-edge technology makes it a strong contender in the evolving EV market. While Hyundai has not yet announced global launch plans, the Nexo is poised to redefine the fuel-cell SUV segment worldwide.
