Honda Reveals Next Gen Hybrid Platform: 90kg Lighter and More Efficient
Honda Motor Corporation has unveiled its next-generation hybrid platform, marking a major milestone in its roadmap toward carbon neutrality by 2050. Presented at the Honda Automotive Technology Workshop, this innovation highlights the brand’s focus on performance, efficiency, and intelligent engineering across its upcoming models.
The PF2 Hybrid Platform: Light, Modular, and Future Ready
Codenamed PF2, Honda’s new midsize hybrid platform delivers agility, strength, and sustainability. The architecture is 90 kilograms lighter than the current generation while offering enhanced body rigidity for improved handling and safety. Honda says this new structure will deliver the joy of driving while boosting fuel efficiency and responsiveness.
The PF2 platform features a modular layout with a shared engine bay and rear underbody, allowing over 60 per cent of components to be common across multiple models. This approach reduces production costs, simplifies global manufacturing, and strengthens Honda’s ability to scale its hybrid lineup efficiently.

Smarter Driving with New Tech
Underneath the surface, Honda has equipped the PF2 with advanced control systems to enhance driving dynamics. The new Motion Management System, inspired by robotics-based posture control, works in conjunction with Agile Handling Assist and a Body Rigidity Management System to enhance cornering precision and ride stability. Together, these technologies promise a smoother, more engaging drive that combines innovation with driver confidence.
India’s Connection: 7 Seater SUV and Next Gen City
In India, the PF2 platform is set to make its debut in 2027 with an all-new 7-seater hybrid SUV. The same architecture will underpin the next-generation Honda City, expected to launch by 2029. Both vehicles will benefit from PF2’s lightweight design, improved dynamics, and superior efficiency. This platform will strengthen Honda’s position in India’s fast-growing hybrid vehicle market.

Large Hybrid Platform for Global Markets
Alongside PF2, Honda also introduced its large hybrid platform designed for bigger vehicles in markets like the United States. It features a new V6 engine, advanced battery packs, and upgraded drive units. The setup aims to deliver 30 per cent higher fuel efficiency and 10 per cent quicker acceleration than existing internal combustion models, raising performance and sustainability standards.
The Road Ahead
With the PF2 hybrid platform, Honda is preparing for a smarter and cleaner decade of mobility. By combining lightweight construction, modular design, and robotics-inspired systems, Honda is not only refining hybrids but redefining them. The first production model based on PF2 will arrive in 2027, paving the way for a lighter, more efficient, and technologically advanced generation of Honda cars in India and beyond.
