Bajaj’s Big 125cc Push

Bajaj Auto is working on a brand-new 125cc motorcycle set to launch in FY2026. Likely to be positioned under the Pulsar nameplate, this bike aims to deepen Bajaj’s hold in the volume-heavy 125cc segment.

This move comes as part of a broader strategy. Over 40% of Bajaj’s sales already come from the 125cc category, with the Pulsar 125, NS125, N125, and Freedom 125 forming the core of the lineup. The company expects this segment to grow between 8% and 12% in FY2026.

Why It Matters Now

In recent years, Bajaj Auto saw its market share in the 125cc-plus space climb from 20% in FY21 to 25.5% in FY24. However, that momentum slowed in FY25 with a marginal drop to 24%—a dip the company isn’t taking lightly. Executive Director Rakesh Sharma confirmed that regaining and expanding market share in this category is a top priority.

“We are hungry for more, there is no doubt about that,” Sharma said, emphasising the company’s commitment to leading this high-growth segment.

What’s Coming?

While exact details remain under wraps, industry speculation suggests two possibilities: an entirely new Pulsar or a modern revival of the CT125X or Discover. Either way, Bajaj seems focused on building a mass-market-friendly machine with sporty flair.

The new launch is also expected to bridge the gap with segment leader Honda, which currently holds a 5–6% edge over Bajaj in the 125cc+ category. A successful launch could tilt the balance.

Bajaj’s Strategy: Not Just Price Wars

Unlike rivals, Bajaj doesn’t plan to win the market by slashing prices. “We do not subscribe to using pure pricing to acquire market share—it’s not sustainable,” Sharma noted. Instead, the focus is on a steady pipeline of new launches across both 125cc and 150–160cc segments.

Can Bajaj Dethrone Honda?

The 125cc-plus segment has consistently outperformed the industry’s overall 6% growth rate, and Bajaj is betting big on this trend. A new Pulsar could be exactly what it needs to spark demand and close the gap with Honda.

For now, all eyes are on FY2026. Can Bajaj’s upcoming launch be the turning point in the race for 125cc dominance?
