Honda’s new hybrid strategy for India
Honda currently sells only three models in India, but its roadmap includes ten new launches by 2030. The Japanese brand is now shifting its focus toward strong hybrid and electric vehicles, aiming to build a full portfolio that appeals to mileage-focused as well as premium buyers.
Honda Elevate Hybrid – expected launch late 2026
The Elevate was launched with a petrol-only engine, but the hybrid upgrade has always been on the cards. The Elevate Hybrid is expected to debut in the second half of 2026, likely around the festive season. It will borrow the 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol engine paired with two electric motors from the City e:HEV strong hybrid. With this setup, the Elevate Hybrid is expected to deliver exceptional fuel efficiency of around 26–27 kmpl, making it one of the most economical mid-size SUVs in India.
Honda 7-Seater Hybrid SUV – expected launch 2027
Honda is developing an all-new three-row SUV for India, positioned above the Elevate. Expected to arrive in 2027, this family SUV will likely be the first model based on Honda’s latest PF2 platform. It is expected to come with the familiar 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine and a strong hybrid variant similar to the City e:HEV. The SUV is being designed with global R&D support while keeping the Indian market needs in mind.
Honda ZR-V Hybrid – expected launch 2026 (CBU)
The ZR-V Hybrid has been confirmed for the Indian market and will be imported as a CBU. The SUV measures 4.56 metres in length and is powered by a 2.0L petrol engine paired with a dual-motor strong hybrid system, producing 180 bhp. It also gets AWD and an e-CVT gearbox. While a pure petrol version exists globally, it is unlikely to come to India.
Next-Gen Honda City Hybrid – expected launch 2028
The current Honda City has been around since 2020, and the sixth-generation model is expected in 2028. The new-gen City will likely utilise the PF2 modular platform and take design inspiration from Honda’s futuristic 0 Series sedan concept. It is expected to continue with both the 1.5L iVTEC petrol and strong hybrid powertrains, with higher localisation levels to keep pricing competitive.
Honda Prelude Hybrid – expected launch 2026
The iconic Prelude nameplate is returning after more than two decades and is expected to launch in India via the CBU route in 2026. Positioned as a premium hybrid coupe, it is expected to be priced around ₹80 lakh (ex-showroom). The highlight will be its 2.0L Atkinson cycle two-motor hybrid system producing 200 hp, paired with an aggressive and sporty design language.

If fuel efficiency is the priority, the Elevate Hybrid will be the most accessible option. Families looking for a larger and more premium option should wait for Honda’s upcoming 7-seater hybrid SUV. Enthusiasts who prefer performance and exclusivity will find the Prelude Hybrid worth the wait.
