After discontinuing the first-gen WR-V in early 2023, Honda currently lacks presence in one of India’s most competitive SUV segments. Recent reports suggest the automaker is revisiting this space, encouraged by the revised GST norms that lower taxes on sub-4 metre vehicles. Honda aims to leverage this advantage to expand its lineup and strengthen its position in India’s sub-4 metre SUV category.

Expected Design And Positioning

The upcoming small SUV will be developed on a new platform, possibly influenced by the next-gen Brio with an SUV-inspired design. The model could feature modern styling, advanced connectivity, and strong safety features to appeal to Indian buyers. Honda is expected to position the SUV against popular rivals like the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Kia Sonet.

Hybrid Powertrain Likely

Honda may equip the WR-V successor with multiple powertrain options, including a hybrid setup similar to the City e:HEV. This move aligns with the company’s broader plan to expand its hybrid portfolio in India by the end of the decade. The hybrid variant could become one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs in the sub-4 metre class.

Launch Timeline

While Honda has not officially confirmed the model, reports indicate that the compact SUV could arrive in Indian showrooms by 2028.
